Iyabo Ojo

Alice Iyabo Ojo is a Nigerian actress, director, and producer who was born on December 21, 1977. She has appeared in more than 150 movies, and she has also produced more than 14 of them.

Early Life

Iyabo Ojo was born on December 21, 1977, as Alice Iyabo Ogunro in Lagos, Nigeria, despite the fact that her father was from Abeokuta, Ogun State. She has two older brothers and was the third child in the family.

Education

Before she went to the Estate Management program at the Lagos State Polytechnic, she did her undergraduate work at the National College, Gbagbada in Lagos.

Career

Iyabo Ojo started her acting career in 1998 after participating in a theatre club in high school. She joined the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) with the help of Bimbo Akintola and was able to connect with other actors.

Ojo has written scripts for and appeared in many Nigerian movies. Her debut appearance was in the English-language movie Satanic in 1998. She debuted in the Yoruba language in 2002 with Baba Darijinwon.

Her movie, Silence, starring Joseph Benjamin Alex Usifo, Fathia Balogun, and Doris Simeon, had its world premiere at the Silverbird Cinemas in Ikeja, Lagos, in January 2015.

Ojo began her own film production company in 2004. Bolutife was her first production; she then went on to produce Bofeboko, Ololufe, Esan, and Okunkun Biribiri. Before she became famous, she also got a divorce from her husband.

Personal Life

When she married a Lagos-based clearing agent in 1999, at the age of 21, Iyabo decided to put her career on hold. She is now divorced from their father.

Felix Ojo and Priscilla Ajoke Ojo are the son and daughters she gave birth to (in 1999 and 2001, respectively). She blames marrying too early for the dissolution of her first union. She has stated that she intends to stop using the last name of her ex-husband, Ojo.

Pinkies Foundation

In May 2011, Iyabo Ojo established Pinkies Foundation, an NGO that assists underprivileged children and others with special needs. On May 1, 2016, she held a celebration at the R&A City Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, to mark the fifth anniversary of the charity.

Activism

She harshly criticized Yomi Fabiyi, a fellow performer, in April 2021 for supporting Olanrewaju Omikunle (Baba Ijesha), who was detained for assaulting a child. She filed a lawsuit on May 12, 2021, accusing Yomi Fabiyi of making "defamatory statements" about her.

Yomi Fabiyi had earlier organized a demonstration calling for Baba Ijesha's release.

The Theater Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) blacklisted her on June 28, 2021, as a result of her activities.

In a statement, actor Jide Kosoko is said to have said that TAMPAN-affiliated Nollywood filmmakers will no longer work with her.
